Fr. Van. Englan, in 1951. Ever since its inception in the year 1951, the Department of English has been on an onward march towards excellence. The Department of English working with the motto of \u201cPersevere-Excel-Promote Quality\u201d aims to hone the linguistic skills of the second language learners and strengthen the literary talents of the UG and PG students opting for English Literature. The students graduating from the Department have distinguished themselves both in language and literary studies and have earned laurels for the college by their remarkable and outstanding success in different walks of life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEANS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To achieve the above objectives we shoulder the responsibility of moulding the character of students through the teaching learning process.<\/li>\n<li>We aim to build a healthy relationship with the students by combining academic excellence with higher values of life.<\/li>\n<li>We attempt to promote quality research and advanced methods of teaching for the effective dissemination of knowledge to enhance professional skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ACHIEVEMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An outstanding contribution of the Department has been in the field of Functional English. As a result of exemplary teaching many of our alumni hold very responsible posts in the field of mass media and communication. To further enhance this training and facilitate still better learning of the nuances of the subject, a language laboratory has been set up, and is fully functional.<\/p>\n<p>To upgrade the standard of English, regular Remedial Classes and Spoken English courses are held. The progress of students is monitored through tutorial classes, surprise tests, and C.C.E\u2019s that ensure better performance of the students.<br \/>\nMerit positions in the University have been bagged consistently by our students both at the graduate and the post graduate levels. Dr. Davis GeorgeVicar General and Parish Priest St. Peter &amp; Paul Cathedral Jabalpur. The competition was conducted in honor of the Grand Opening of Lord Ram\u2019s temple in Ayodhya. Participants gave their concept of what Shri Ram and Ram Rajya meant to them. There was various competitions like rasa reflection, design dive, art floor, brain brawls, word wizardry, character chronicles.<\/p>\n<p>On 7<sup>th<\/sup> March clicking of emotions and alternative book cover competitions were organized in which 53 students participated.\u00a0In brain brawls 56 and in Spell Bee 35and in Character chronicles 25students participated. The judges of the various competitions were Dr. Zareen, Mr. Enosh Philip, Dr. Chitranshi Verma, Dr. Priyanka Sinha, Dr. Harleen Kaur Rupra, Mrs. Sonal Chaturvedi, Dr Usha Kelley, Dr Aarti Patel, Dr. Samta Naidu.\u00a0Various games like watch your step, Cup Ping Pong, Ring Toss, Tug of War\u00a0were part of the amusement\u00a0segment. Indian and continental food stalls, bookstall, jewelry and face painting stalls were the sources of attraction for the students and teachers. Students from different colleges attended the fest. The winners of the competitions were awarded with mementoes and certificates. Professors from different colleges like Govt. Mahakaushal Arts and Commerce (Autonomous) College, M.K.B Women\u2019s College, Govt. Science College, Matagujri Arts and Commerce College St. Aloysius Institute of Technology and RDVV, Jabalpur graced the main function of this programme. The college newsletter published by the students of Dept. of English vol.1 and vol.2 were released by Dr. Fr. Ben Anton Rose, Vice Principal.<\/p>\n<p>The Principal Fr. Dr. G. Vazhan Arasu\u00a0encouraged and motivated the students to\u00a0 be proactive in every field of life. Dr. Fr. Ben Anton Rose, Vice Principal was the key person behind the program. He appreciated hard work and creativity of the students. Dr. Neelanjana Pathak Head, dept. Of English supervised the entire program and\u00a0Dr. Niharika Singh, Dr. Meeta Agrawal\u00a0and Mr. Viraj Singh Yadav contributed significantly to make this programm successful. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Aarish Ansari.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 2024<\/strong><br \/>\nOn August 9, 2024, Under the aegis of English Department at St. Aloysius&#8217; College, Jabalpur, The Literact Club, conducted a community service event at the Assembly of God Higher Secondary School. This event aimed to engage students in meaningful discussions on topics crucial for their personal and academic growth, including mental health, the importance of communication, and career options available after studying literature.<\/p>\n<p>The event was characterized by interactive sessions where each lecture encouraged active student participation. This approach made the sessions engaging and allowed students to share their perspectives and experiences. Overall, the event successfully educated nearly 40 students on important life skills and career insights, providing them with valuable information to help guide their future decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Feedback from students and faculty members was overwhelmingly positive. organised a Poster Competition on the theme &#8220;What freedom means to me? &#8221; on 20 August 2022. Students of English Literature BA (I, II, III) and MA (I, III) zealously participated. Different expressions of freedom were portrayed.
