In 2003-2004 the Department of Commerce was established under the able headship of Dr. Mrs. Elena Philip. Since then, the department has been at the forefront in catering to the needs of the commerce students which form a large section of strength of the college.

The Department of Computer Science & Application was started in year 1991 with the definite Mission,Vision and Objectives under the leadership of Prof. Daniel, by keeping in mind about the growing need of Computer Professionals in the Cooperate Sector. The Department aims to fulfill the Vision with total commitment from Faculty Members and Students. The rapid growth in the development of Computer Hardware, Software, IT and its widespread Application in all aspects of life created a considerable demand for Computer Graduates in all specializations. In order to fulfill this demand, the faculty of Computer Science and Application is offering quality Teaching and Training programs to prepare its students for a much needed career in the dynamic and rapidly evolving computing industry of today. The faculty provides high quality Education programs in a friendly,highly technological, productive and enjoyable environment.

The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1951. The founder of the department was Mr. P. K. Matthew, M.Sc, L.L.B. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, he resigned from his job in the year 1961. However he came back for a brief stint in the institution for a year. Mr. S.K. Saxena joined the institution in the year 1955 and served relentlessly and with utmost dedication till his retirement in 1992. Mr N.K Saxena was a man of Organic Chemistry and he became the Head of Department of Chemistry in the year 1971.

He was well known for his rare sense of humour. In the year 1958, Mr. N.D Sen joined the Department of Chemistry. Mr N.D Sen was a man of Physical Chemistry and was Incharge of NCC Battalion of St. Aloysius College. He served as a Major in his Battalion. He became the Head of Department of Chemistry in the year 1992. He served selflessly till his retirement in 1994.

Ms. M. Mukherjee also served in the department for a year. Mr. B.P Namdeo joined the institution in the year 1969, gave his valuable services to the institution till 1998. Mr B. P Namdeo served as Head of Department from 1994 -1998, and retired in the year 1998. In 1998, Dr. Mrs. Anjali D’souza took over as the Head of Department and continues till date

The department was established in 1956.Initially there were about 20 students and 3 members:

  • Dr. P.L. Bhartiya

Physics

St. Aloysius College was established in the year 1951 and is consistently maintaining excellent quality in education. It is a prestigious educational institute in the state, which was re-accredited 'A' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore and is also a College with Potential for Excellence.

Department of Zoology was established in 1998 with the founder head and Coordinator for the Bio-stream as Mrs. M. Sahasrabudhe and offering B.Sc Zoology with the subject combination of Chemistry, Zoology and Botany.

In 2002, the department started a course with the combination of Chemistry, Zoology and Biochemistry

In 2004, UG course in Biotechnology with the combination of Chemistry, Zoology and Biotechnology was started .

In 2007 Dr. Joydeep Dutta took over the charge of HOD followed by Dr. Asha Khanna in 2009 .

In 2010 the department was upgraded into a postgraduate department and started offering M.Sc Zoology with emphasis on Ichthyology .

In 2014 Dr. Parnashree Mukherjee took over as Head of the department . The department has a team of passionate and dedicated faculty members who are also actively involved in various research activities

Biotechnology

The department was initially established in the academic session 1998-99 during the tenure of former Principal, Rev. Dr. Fr. Davis George. A new course in Industrial Microbiology with Botany and Chemistry combination was introduced in session 2001-2002. This course was approved by UGC New Delhi for Introduction of degree course as a vocational subject.

The Department of Botany and Microbiology is presently forging ahead with 2 UG courses (Botany and Industrial Microbiology) and PG course in Microbiology setting new land marks in teaching and learning. A new course combination Botany with Biotechnology and Zoology was introduced in 2008.

The Department enjoys the status of star performer in the institution as all these Courses are running full fledging since their establishment and department has been appreciated for securing university merit positions in UG courses and capturing university top ranks in PG.

Arts

The Department of English was founded and established by Rev. Fr. Van. Englan, in 1951. Ever since its inception in the year 1951, the Department of English has been on an onward march towards excellence. The Department of English working with the motto of “Persevere-Excel-Promote Quality” aims to hone the linguistic skills of the second language learners and strengthen the literary talents of the UG and PG students opting for English Literature. The students graduating from the Department have distinguished themselves both in language and literary studies and have earned laurels for the college by their remarkable and outstanding success in different walks of life.

Department Of Economics

Economics Department established in 1951, was a single man department headed by Prof. J.V. Magima.

Department of Political Science was established in 1951. Then Hindi Medium Classes started in 1956. Three Years degree course was started in the year 1961. Post graduate classes in political science were started in 1998.First Add-on certificate
Course in Human Rights started in political science in the year 2009 sanctioned by UGC.

The Department of History "When excellence is not a habit,but a tradition" has a History as old as St. Aloysius' College. The Department of History was established in 1951 to teach the U.G. course to the students and it is continuing its journey successfully till date with utmost effort on the part of the faculty members .From November 1958 onwards Prof. S. K. Chatterjee took charge of the Department, ft was at this time that Hindi medium classes were introduced which have continued successfully till date. Prof S. K Chatterjee retired in 1995.

To understand our culture it is indeed our responsibility to understand the tangible and the intangible heritage surrounding us, hence conservation and preservation and promotion of tourist sites leading to employment has been one of our aims.

Department of Management was established by the former Principal Rev. Dr. Fr. Davis George in 2006 with the aim to provide the world class management education in the city of Jabalpur.

Teachers play a very important role in a student's life. So, it is very necessary to be adequately equipped with resources that will make the teacher a perfect role model to the students. To achieve this, Bachelor of Education or B. Ed was introduced, in the year 2004.
