Department of Political Science

Department of Political Science was established in 1951. Then Hindi Medium Classes started in 1956. Three Years degree course was started in the year 1961. Post graduate classes in political science were started in 1998. Add-on certificate Course in Human Rights started in the year 2009 sanctioned by UGC. The primary aim of the department is to impart knowledge of art and skills of governance and administration thereby moulding politically responsible and conscious citizens.

To create positive ambience for Academic Excellence and Moral Development of the students.

Vision

To develop the Department as a centre of Qualitative Teaching and researching Political Science and Aims to create a Political Conscious Community.

Objectives

2019-2020

  • Under the banner of Smaran Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi programme 2019 the department conducted Paricharcha on Dal Badal Virodhi Kanoon dated 3rd August 2019.
  • A Group Discussion on the topic ‘One Nation -One Election’ on 21 September 2019.
  • “PRAVAAH” Political Science Newsletter released on 12 th October 2019.
  • To strengthen the roots of Parliamentary democracy, inculcate healthy habits of discipline, tolerance of the views of others and to enable the student community to know about the parliamentary system of Government functioning department conducted “Youth Parliament” in collaboration with Pt. Kunjilal Dubey Rashtriya Sansadiya Vidyapeetha, Bhopal on 18 th October 2019.
  • A Poster Competition on various Political Issues like Motor Vehicle Act, Women Empowerment, Corruption, Cleanliness on 18 th October 2019.
  • PG IV Semester students went for field survey at Gram Silua, Jabalpur on 2 November 2019.
  • A Guest Lecture delivered by Mr. Siddhath Seth, Advocate MP High Court, Jabalpur on the topic “Fundamental Rights and Indian Constitution” and the students of B.A. III Year also gave a brief talk on Fundamental Rights and Duties in various classes of the College to celebrate Constitution Day on 26 November 2019
  • A Guest Lecture delivered by Mr. Vivek Ranjan Pandey, Advocate MP High Court Jabalpur on the topic “Human Rights :Problems and Solutions” on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on 10 th December 2019.
  • ‘Celebrate 130 th Birth Anniversary of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru’ A Paricharcha was organised on the topic “Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and Rule of Law” on 12 December 2019.
  • A seminar on “Gandhi Tumhe Naman” conducted on 71 st death Anniversary of Mahatman Gandhi on 30 th January 2020.
  • To experience and witness in concern the functioning of the Parliament the Department organized an Educational Tour to Lok Sabha, New Delhi on 4th and 5 th February 2020.
  • National Webinar conducted on “COVID19: Implications for Value System, Politics and Education” on 24 th May 2020.

2020-2021

  • A video presentation about the life of Gandhiji prepared and shared with students to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2020.
  • On the occasion of Constitution Day a talk on Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties, to spread awareness among students about the importance of Constitution in Nation-building on 26th November 2020.
  • Essay Competition was conducted and the topic for essay was ‘Indo-China Relations’.
  • Speech competition was organized to celebrate International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2020.
  • “Pravah” Political Science newsletter released on 18th January 2021.
  • The Department organized Two days online Workshop on Roadmap for Writing Research Paper on 7th-8th June 2021. Dr. Arvind Kumar Joshi, Professor, Banaras Hindu University U.P. was resource person.

2021-2022

  • To develop understanding of the words embodied in Indian Constitution and aware about the Fundamental Rights and Duties as a citizen of India, Department celebrated Constitutional Day on 26 November 2021.
  • Group Discussion on “Emerging Trends in Indian Foreign Policy” to increase the analytical abilities among students for understanding the International Relations and Foreign Policy.
  • To develop the understanding of Human Rights and enriching students with the ideas of Justice, Equality and Fraternity, Speech Competition and Quiz Competition was organized on International Human Rights Day, 10 December 2021.
  • Essay Competition on ‘Compulsory Voting’ was conducted on 15 January 2022.
  • Speech Competition and Slogan Competition were organized to celebrate Voter’s Day on 25 January 2022 to aware the students about the voting rights that One Vote can make a Change. Voter’s Pledge was also taken by the Students.
  • Essay Competition in collaboration with Pt.Kunjilal Dubey Rashtriya Sansadiya Vidyapeeth, Bhopal on the topic “Loktantra me Civil Sevaon ki Bhumika: Chunautiyyan aur Sambhavnayein”.
  • Poster competition was held on 23 February 2022 to spread the awareness on importance of voting.

2022-2023

  • Lecture on Fun with Mathematics organized by Department of Management and Department of Political Science in collaboration with T.I.M.E., Jabalpur on 16 July 2022.
  • To commemorated Azadi ka Amrit Mahaotsav department conducted Panel Discussion on Contribution of Moderates and Extremists in National Movement on 20 August 2022.
  • To develop understanding of the words embodied in Indian Constitution and aware about the Fundamental Rights and Duties as a citizen of India, Department of Political Science celebrated Constitutional Day in collaboration with NSS and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jabalpur on 26 November 2022, under which Guest Lecture by Shri C.M. Tiwari, Advocate M.P. High Court and various activities i.e. Quiz, essay and Poster making competition was organized.
  • Group Discussion on “Emerging Trends in Indian Foreign Policy” to increase the analytical abilities among students for understanding the International Relations and Foreign Policy.
  • To develop a deep insight about the concept of Human Rights, importance of Human Rights and Rights of Women, Disabled, etc. online guest lecture was organized in collaboration with Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi on International Human Rights Day, 10 December 2022.
  • Essay Competition on ‘Compulsory Voting’ was conducted on 15 January 2023.
  • To commemorate the 127 Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as “Prakram Diwas”, Department of Political Science in Collaboration with Department of Biotechnology organized Intercollegiate Quiz “Bharat Quiz” on 23 January 2023.
  • To aware the students about the voting rights that One Vote can make a Change, Department of Political Science in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club, St. Aloysius College (Auto) Jabalpur has organized ‘Nukad Natak’ on the theme of ‘Loktantra main Matdaan ka Mahatva’ on 25 January 2023.
  • Essay Competition in collaboration with Indian Institute of Public Administration M.P. & Chhatisgarh Regional Branch, Bhopal on the topic “Panchayat Raj- Achievements and Prospects”.
  • Yuva Sanmwad and Budget Par Charcha programme organized by Department of Political Science on 16 March 2023. The speaker of the programme was Shri Ashok Rohani, MLA Cantt. Jabalpur

2023-2024

  • Quiz competition was organized by the department in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club to test the knowledge and awareness on election related topics and facts on 18 September 2023.
  • College & Career Boot camp organized by Department of Political Science in Collaboration with department of Management for college graduates who need a pathway to securing a job in their field; one that will reflect their values and interest, match their skill set, and enable growth and ongoing professional development on 23 September 2023.
  • To spread the Voter awareness Nukkad natak was conducted by the department in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club aimed at making the students aware of the right use of their right to Vote on 27 October 2023.
  • The experiential learning was provided to the PG students by giving them firstly, concrete experiences Field survey was conducted by the department on 22 November 2023.
  • To mark the constitution day department conducted and screening of a short version of the documentary on the “the making of the constitution of India” which depicts various clauses of constitution, explained the fundamental rights of the Citizen and also took a pledge on 26 November 2023.
  • To develop a deep insight about the concept of Human Rights : Theory and Practice, Universal Declaration of Human Rights lecture was organized on International Human Rights Day, 10 December 2023.
  • To aware the students about the voting rights Department of Political Science in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club, St. Aloysius College (Auto) Jabalpur has organized Essay Competition on the theme of ‘Nothing like voting I vote for sure’ on 25 January 2024 and also took pledge.
  • Department of Political Science and Women Cell, under the MOU with Southern Christian College, Philippines organized an online lecture on the topic “Women Empowerment: Challenges and Solutions”, on 13th January 2024. The Resource Person was Prof. Melody R. Arandela Ambangan, Dean, Southern Christian College of Social Work, Philippines.
  • Department of Political Science under the MOU with Jesus &Mary College, New Delhi conducted a Panel Discussion on “Criminalisation of Politics & Politicisation of Crime” on 3rd February 2024.
