Vision: ‘Better citizens through better guidance’.

Objectives:

  • To channelize the energy of the students in a healthy manner in the right direction.
  • To help in intellectual, emotional and moral development of the students resulting in holistic development.
  • To help develop the overall personality of the students.
  • To provide students a platform to show their talent and develop soft skills.
  • To conduct various academic and extra-curricular activities.
  • To conduct activities which will sensitize the students towards the society.

Aloysian Biotech Society is a society run by the Department of Biotechnology for the students, by the students under the guidance of the faulty members. The office bearers are elected by undergraduate and post graduate students of department.

Various activities like annual fest, road shows, lab visits and other extension activities like, street plays, lectures to school students, signature campaigns, poster competitions, debate competitions, health check-ups are carried out by the society.

The society publishes newsletter “BIO-AURA”. The content of the newsletter include the latest research, major breakthrough in the field of Biotechnology, outcomes of innovative practical, departmental gallery, activities of our society and student corner.

Activity Session 2023-24

Vigyanam Garjana : Echoing Science’s Thunderous Success!

 The Department of Biotechnology under the aegis of Aloysian Biotech Society (ABS), St. Aloysius’ (Autonomous) College , Jabalpur organized a science event named ‘Vigyanam Garjana 2.0’ on 14th October 2023, which turned out to be a resounding success. The primary aim of the event was to ignite curiosity and enthusiasm for science, especially among young minds and also promoting research and development.

This dynamic event brought together over 500 students from various schools and colleges at one platform. What made this year’s event even more interesting was the significant increase in the number of participants. This was made possible by the comprehensive approach, extending invitations to a wider range of schools, including those from neighboring districts of Katni, Dindori, Mandla, and Sihora.

The event was full of excitement and intellectual vitality. It featured an engaging mix of competitions, including Ideathon, Sci-Fi Eagle, Quiz, Forensic Chase, and various scientific and amusing stalls. It offered a day overflowing with excitement and intellectual engagement. The SIKANDER OF VIGYANAM GARJANA 2.0 – DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, MANDLA. The 1st place in of Ideathon was secured by Army Public School followed by St. Aloysius’ Sadar and Delhi Public School. St. Josephs; TFRI secured the 1st place in the interesting event Forensic Chase. The 1st and 2nd places in  QUIZ was secured by Delhi Public School followed by St. Aloysius Sadar.

Sci –Fi Eagle the first place was secured by Marthoma Gram Jyoti Sr. Sec School ,Sihora , the second place was secures by Bharat Jyoti Hr. Sec School ,Mandla followed by St. Paul’s Sr. Sec School , Katni.

The successful completion of the event was made possible through the dedicated kind efforts of Principal Rev. Dr. G. Vazhan Arasu, Vice Principals Dr. Anjaly D’Souza and Dr. Kallol Das, as well as the unwavering support of the HOD Biotechnology Dr. Laxmikant Pandey, Sir Nitin Swamy, Enosh Phillip, Dr. Rumana Faraz, and Dr. Anisha Rupashri.Gratitude extends to individuals from various departments, including Dr. Akhilesh Pathak from the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Pramod Chaitanya from the Department of Physics, and Dr. Zareen Baksh from the Department of Botany and Microbiology. Their contributions were instrumental in the success of this extravaganza.

The esteemed guest were Dr. S S Sandhu, Director, Bio-Design Innovation centre RDVV, Jabalpur and Prof. Bhartendu K Singh, Director IIITDM, Jabalpur.Their presence as esteemed guests added prestige to the occasion and inspired all who attended.

Vigyanam Garjana 2.0 was further elevated by the presence of distinguished judges. Dr. Nihar Kumar Mahato, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at IIITDM, Jabalpur, presided over the Ideathon contest. Dr. Yashpal Singh Katharria, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at IIITDM, Jabalpur, took on the role of judge for Sci-fi Eagle,These distinguished individuals brought their immense knowledge and insight, enriching the event and making it even more extra ordinary.

      

Activity Session 2022-2023

The event Vigyanam Garjana was organized by the members of Aloysian Biotech Society under the aegis of Dept. of Biotechnology, St.Aloysius College Sadar, Jabalpur on 15 October 2022 with schools across the city and around 300 students participated in it. The prime motto of the event was to promote science among the young individuals. The event was graced by our honorable Mayor – SHRI JAGAT BHADUR SINGH JI and Manager of JIC – Mr. AGRANSHU DWIVEDI.

There were three exciting competitions organized under this event.
1) IDEATHON – a competition that checked the innovative skills of the students for making model on the themes of Smart City, a competition where many number of ideas were developed for the development of our city.
2) TREASURE HUNT – a fun filled, exciting, thrilling activity where students participated and solved scientific puzzles and riddles to find the hidden treasure.
3) SCI-FI’S EAGLE – a competition where students undergone a mind wrecking journey, where they imagine endless possibilities and find solutions on science fiction topics.

There were Live scientific stalls with exciting and fascinating experiments for everyone to explore and enjoy science.
The overall winner was declared as “SIKANDAR OF VIGYANAM GARJANA” with a running trophy. Cash prizes worth up to INR 12,000, momentos and certificates were
given to the winners under various competitions.

National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28th February to mark the discovery of the Raman effect in 1928 by Indian physicist Dr. CV Raman. CV Raman discovered it while working in the laboratory of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata,which helped him in winning the prestigious Nobel Prize in 1930.The Department of Biotechnology organized an awareness program on National Science Day on 28 February 2022. In this regard, the Department organized various events like making science-based Reels and Memes, Spell- bee, and Skit on the discovery of Penicillin. Students showcase their talent and touch on many aspects related to medicinal discovery. More than 75 students participated in the event.Dr. Sutapa Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, and Mr. Satyendra Jain, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, were the Judges for the various competitions. Certificates and Awards were distributed to the winning students.

SIRJAN 2020

Department of Biotechnology organised various events under SIRJAN on the occasssion of National Science Day .On this occasion about 110 students participated in different activities like Agar Art,3D model making,Bofins.Dr Pramod Chetaniya,Assistant Professor,Dept of Physics and Dr Manish Tiwari, Assistant Professor,Dept of Coputer Science were the judges for the activities.Students learned many new aspects of science by making different working science models and 3D models .Students showcased their talent and touched lot of things related to scientific discoveries.The program was succesful with the kind support and cooperation of the departmental members.

EVENTS ORGANIZED

BIO-EXPO: An annual mega – event organized by the students. The student oriented programs are organized by the elected members of the society. It provides platform for soft skills development. Various events organized during the Bio-expo includes Ad-mad, Bio-Design Models, Treasure –Hunt, Aloysian-Got-Talent, and quiz to name a few.

 EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

Street Play-30 members of the society participated in street play regarding the awareness of AIDS and need for cleanliness at Anganwadi school of Ghansaur (near Tilhari). 130 students from 9th standard witnessed and benefitted by the play (19/01/16).

Signature campaign –Branch Manager with ten volunteers of the FPAI (Family Planning Association of India) assisted the campaign and 92 students were involved. RJ Avinash of 94.3 MY FM interacted with students (11/2/16).

Hemoglobin Check-up- Postgraduate students checked the hemoglobin content of the girls of standard 6th -10th in Govt. School Pachpedi Jabalpur (14/3/2015).

Lecture on life style diseases was delivered by Dr Asha khanna (14/3/2015).


SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATION :

Lecture on Science Day was delivered by Mr.Enosh Philips.

Poster competition was organized on the theme “Save Environment’ for Class VI-VIII standard students and certificate was distributed by Dr. Mrs. Sunita Sharma, Professor, Government Model Science College, Jabalpur.

To observe the Science Day, series of guest lectures (by Dr..P. K Singhal Department of Biosciences RDVV, Dr.  A P Singh, Associate Professor, Veterinary University, Jabalpur and Dr. Praveen Bharati) were organized.


VIGILANCE AWARENESS :

An essay writing competition was organized in the department by the ABS members to observe the vigilance awareness week. The topic of the essay was ‘Public Participation in Eradicating Corruption’. The winners were felicitated by Mr. Tanay Kumar, Sr. Divisional manager, Indian Oil Corporation with cash award.
